WHO WAS ANAXAGORAS ?

Anaxagoras was the first greek philosopher to introduce philosophy to Athenians. He was imprisoned for claiming that the Sun was not a god and that the Moon reflected the Sun's light.

EARLY YEARS

Anaxagoras was born in (510 BC) in Clazomenae, Ionia. He hailed from an aristocratic and wealthy family.

Not much is known about his early life except for the fact that he was blessed with a brilliant mind and had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He probably spent his youth in Ionia, learning about new things and becoming interested in the scientific study of the world.

Realizing that his life’s purpose was to search for knowledge, he renounced his riches and devoted himself to science.

Major Works

The Pre-Socratic philosopher Anaxagoras is credited to possess introduced the Athenians to the concept of philosophy. His contributions to the sector of cosmology are immense as he was probably the primary person to state the right reason behind the occurrence of eclipses.
He claimed that the sun wasn't a god as people of his time believed, but a celestial body composed of blazing metal.

DEATH

Anaxagoras continued to propound his teachings in Lampsacus till a ripe adulthood , spending time on research. Though he's never credited with writing any major work, his disciples carried his preaching to other parts of the planet , as Lampsacus was at the crossroads of the Occident and the Orient. He died of old age in 428BC
